Copenhagen has earned a reputation as a city that takes its coffee seriously. Beyond the traditional cafés, the city boasts a vibrant specialty coffee scene where quality beans, light roasts, expert brewing and unique atmospheres come together. Here you will get a chance to taste some of the best brews in Scandinavia. This guide highlights some of the best specialty coffee shops in Copenhagen, including Prolog, Noma, La Cabra, April, Hans, Darcy's, Goose, and Andersen & Maillard.

Prolog Coffee
Prolog is a favorite among coffee enthusiasts who appreciate precision and creativity. Their shops are scattered throughout the city, you can find them in the districts of Papirøen, Vesterbro, Østerbro and Frederiksberg. Here they focus on single-origin beans and meticulous brewing methods. The baristas are passionate and knowledgeable, often experimenting with different extraction techniques to bring out unique flavours. We have visited the location in Papirøen, from where you have a nice view over the canal.

Noma’s Coffee Experience
While Noma is world-famous for its innovative cuisine, its coffee offering is equally impressive. In the spring of 2025 they launched Noma Kaffe, with beans sourced directly from farmers and roasted by themselves in Copenhagen. At the Noma Projects Shop (located inside the test kitchen and fermentation lab) Noma serves specialty coffee that complements the culinary artistry the restaurant is known for.

La Cabra Coffee Roasters
La Cabra is a Danish roastery and café that has gained international acclaim for its commitment to quality and sustainability. It was established in Aarhus in 2012 and has various locations in Denmark, but has since spread its wings to cities like New York, Bangkok and Muscat. Their Copenhagen location is a hub for coffee lovers who want to explore bold and complex flavours. It was a nice experience to sit at the counter and enjoy a good cup of coffee with a delicious almond bun.

April Coffee Roasters
April Coffee Roasters combines Scandinavian design with a true passion for coffee. Their aim is to give you a coffee where you can taste the terroir. At the April Experience Store and Coffee Shop you feel that coffee is serious business for them. So much attention and precision is devoted to the brewing process that it almost looks like a laboratory. They even have an exclusive selection of their best seasonal limited lots, and a tasting menu so you can enjoy a selection of their finest coffees.

Hans Coffee Shop
Hans is a smaller, neighbourhood coffee shop (with three locations) that has built a loyal following thanks to its warm and welcoming atmosphere. We have visited the one on Boldhusgade, which might not be so easy to find at first glance, because you have to go down a few steps to get to the cozy and vaulted souterrain. Here I was immediately mesmerized by the mountain of butter on the counter... So we had to try their sesame sourdough bun with butter, cheese and apricot/rosemary jam, which was absolutely delicious. For desert we had a filter coffee with a tasty matcha ganache cookie.

Darcy’s Coffee
Darcy’s is a specialty coffee shop with three locations that focuses on quality beans and expert brewing. The shops are known for their hygge atmosphere, where many locals gather for a chat, to work or to knit in silence. They themselves actually call it 'your local living room'.

Goose Deli
Goose Deli is a newer addition to Copenhagen’s coffee scene but has quickly made a name for itself. The shop (which is a Chinese deli, bakery, shop and fermentation lab) emphasizes sustainable sourcing and innovative brewing techniques. We tried the pastry with stiky rice and black sesame paste, which was 10/10. Normally I am not such a big fan of mochi on its own, because the taste can be a bit dull sometimes. But paired with this flaky puff pastry and rich & creamy sesame paste, it makes it irresistable...

Andersen & Maillard
Andersen & Maillard is a roastery, bakery and café with three locations. Their approach to roasting and brewing highlights the best qualities of each bean. We've visited the lively coffee shop and roastery in the neighbourhood of Nørrebro.
